cabbala (n.) 1520s, from M.L. cabbala, from Mishnaic Heb. qabbalah "reception, received lore, tradition," especially "tradition of mystical interpretation of the Old Testament," from qibbel "to receive, admit, accept." Cf. Arabic qabala "he received, accepted."
