aqueduct (n.) 1530s, from L. aquaeductus "conveyance of water," from aquae, gen. of aqua "water" (see AQUA- (Cf. aqua-)), + ductus "a leading, conducting," pp. of ducere "to lead" (see DUKE (Cf. duke) (n.)).
