sodality "companionship, fellowship," c.1600, from M.Fr. sodalité, from L. sodalitatem (nom. sodalitas) "companionship, a brotherhood," from sodalis "companion," related to suescere "to accustom" (see MANSUETUDE (Cf. mansuetude)). Especially of religious guilds in the Catholic Church.
