Phoenician
Phoenician late 14c., from M.Fr. phenicien, from L. Phoenice, from Gk. Phoinike, perhaps lit. "land of the purple" (source of purple dye). Identical with PHOENIX (Cf. phoenix) (q.v.), but the relationship is obscure.
