mesentery (n.) fold of the peritoneum, early 15c., from medical L. mesenterium "middle of the intestine," from medical Gk. mesenterion, from mesos "middle" (see MEDIAL (Cf. medial) (adj.)) + enteron "intestine" (see ENTERIC (Cf. enteric)). Related: Mesenteric.
