meddlesome (adj.) 1610s, from MEDDLE (Cf. meddle) + -SOME (Cf. -some). Earlier was medlous "quarrelsome, meddlesome" (mid-15c.). Related: Meddlesomely. Character name Meddlesome Mattie attested from 1814.
