liquefy (v.) early 15c., from O.Fr. liquefier "liquefy, dissolve," from L. liquefacere "make liquid, melt," from liquere "be fluid" (see LIQUID (Cf. liquid) (adj.)) + facere "to make" (see FACTITIOUS (Cf. factitious)).
