hagiarchy (n.) "government by persons in holy orders," 1826; see HAGIOLOGY (Cf. hagiology) + -ARCHY (Cf. -archy). Not to be confused with hagiocracy "government by persons considered holy" (1846); -CRACY (Cf. -cracy).
