fabrication (n.) c.1500, "manufacturing, construction," from M.Fr. fabrication and directly from L. fabricationem (nom. fabricatio), noun of action from pp. stem of fabricare (see FABRICATE (Cf. fabricate)). Meaning "lying, falsehood, forgery" is from late 18c.
