cahoots

cahoots
cahoots 1829, Amer.Eng., said to be perhaps from Fr. cahute "cabin, hut" (12c.), but U.S. sources credit it to Fr. cohorte (see COHORT (Cf. cohort)), a word said to be in use in the South and West with a sense of "companions, confederates."
