buckboard

buckboard
buckboard (n.) 1839, "plank on wheels," from BOARD (Cf. board) (n.1) + buck "body of a cart or wagon" (1690s), perhaps a dialectal survival of O.E. buc "belly, body, trunk," from W.Gmc. *buh- (Cf. Ger. bauch "belly"). As a type of vehicle constructed this way, from 1874.
