bionomics "science of organic evolution; ecology," 1888, coined by Scottish biologist Patrick Geddes (1854-1932) from Gk. bio- (see BIO- (Cf. bio-)) + nomos "managing," from nemein "manage" (see NUMISMATICS (Cf. numismatics)).
