antitype (n.) also anti-type, 1610s, from Gk. antitypos "corresponding in form," lit. "struck back, responding as an impression to a die," from anti- (see ANTI- (Cf. anti-)) + typos "a blow, mark" (see TYPE (Cf. type) (n.)).
