widgeon

widgeon
widgeon migratory wild duck, 1510s, perhaps from some variant of Fr. vigeon, which some trace to L. vipionem (nom. vipio), "a kind of small crane," a Balearic word, perhaps imitative. OED, however, finds all this "very dubious."
