Sabaoth

Sabaoth
Sabaoth early 14c., from L.L., from Gk. Sabaoth, from Heb. tzebhaoth "hosts, armies," plural of tzabha "army." A word translated in the Old Testament by the phrase "the Lord of Hosts," but originally left untranslated in the New Testament and in the "Te Deum" in the designation Lord of Sabaoth; often confused with SABBATH (Cf. sabbath).
