promiscuity 1849, "indiscriminate mixture," from Fr. promiscuité (1752), from L. promiscuus (see PROMISCUOUS (Cf. promiscuous)) + Fr. -ité (see -ITY (Cf. -ity)). Sexual sense is from 1865.
