medicaster (n.) "quack," c.1600, from L. *medicaster (Cf. It. medicastro, Fr. médicastre, 16c.), from medicus (see MEDICAL (Cf. medical) (adj.)). The feminine form is medicastra. Cf. also -ASTER (Cf. -aster).
