limaceous

limaceous
limaceous "pertaining to slugs," 1650s, with -OUS (Cf. -ous) + L. limax (gen. limacis) "snail, slug," from Gk. leimax, from PIE root * (s)lei- "slime" (see SLIME (Cf. slime) (n.)). The Greek word is cognate with Rus. slimák "snail," Lith. slíekas "earthworm," and the first element in O.E. slaw-wyrm "slow-worm."
