liberation

liberation
liberation early 15c., from M.Fr. libération and directly from L. liberationem (nom. liberatio) "a setting or becoming free," noun of action from pp. stem of liberare "set free" (see LIBERATE (Cf. liberate)). Liberation theology (1969) translates Sp. teologia de la liberación, coined 1968 by Peruvian priest Gustavo Gutiérrez.
