irrefrangible (adj.) c.1719, "that cannot be broken," from assimilated form of in- "not, opposite of" (see IN- (Cf. in-) (1)) + refrangible, from re- "back" (see RE- (Cf. re-)) + L. frangere "to break" (see FRACTION (Cf. fraction)).
