intimation
intimation mid-15c., "action of making known," from M.Fr. intimation (late 14c.), from L.L. intimationem (nom. intimatio) "an announcement" (in M.L. "a judicial notification"), noun of action from pp. stem of intimare (see INTIMATE (Cf. intimate)). Meaning "suggestion, hint" is from 1530s.
