inconsequent (adj.) 1570s, "not following as a logical conclusion," from L. inconsequentem (nom. inconsequens) "not logically connected," from in- "not, opposite of, without" (see IN- (Cf. in-) (1)) + consequens, pp. of consequi "to follow" (see CONSEQUENCE (Cf. consequence)).
