err

err
err (v.) c.1300, from O.Fr. errer "go astray, lose one's way; make a mistake; transgress," from L. errare "wander, go astray, be in error," from PIE root *ers- "wander around" (Cf. Skt. arsati "flows;" O.E. ierre "angry, straying;" O.Fris. ire "angry;" O.H.G. irri "angry," irron "astray;" Goth. airziþa "error, deception;" the Germanic words reflecting the notion of anger as a "straying" from normal composure). Related: Erred; erring.
