cozen

cozen
cozen 1560s, of uncertain origin; perhaps from Fr. cousiner "cheat on pretext of being a cousin;" or from M.E. cosyn "fraud, trickery" (mid-15c.), perhaps related to O.Fr. coçon "dealer, merchant, trader," from L. cocionem "horse dealer." Related: Cozenage.
