circumspection (n.) late 14c., "careful observation of one's surroundings," from O.Fr. circumspection (Mod.Fr. circonspection), from L. circumspectionem (nom. circumspectio) "looking around," noun of action from pp. stem of circumspicere (see CIRCUMSPECT (Cf. circumspect)).
