haberdashery (n.) early 15c., Anglo-French, "goods sold by a haberdasher," from HABERDASHER (Cf. haberdasher) + -Y (Cf. -y) (2). Meaning "a haberdasher's shop" is recorded from 1813, with meaning shading to -ERY (Cf. -ery).
