Dorothy

Dorothy
Dorothy fem. proper name, from Fr. Dorothée, from L. Dorothea, from Greek, lit. "gift of God," from doron "gift" + fem. of theos "god" (see THEA (Cf. Thea)). With the elements reversed, it becomes THEODORA (Cf. Theodora). The accessory called a Dorothy bag is so called from 1907.
